WB 03: Bish, Bash & made it to Bosham

Progress

Progress has been a bit stop start this week, unfortunately due to illness I am one day behind schedule, but have reached the proposed finish point for the week. Due to the extended week last week this was meant to be a short/sharp week but hasn't felt that way. I have travelled from Eastbourne, East Sussex to Bosham, West Sussex covering 92 miles.

Hardships

I have to start with the illness, unfortunately on Saturday I woke up ill, presumably from food poisoning based on the symptoms. This pretty much wrote of the whole day, I go into more detail regards this in the daily diary. As well as putting me a day behind schedule, it also drained me of energy for the following two days, and I am very glad to be on my rest day to enable me to recuperate

I have a feeling that the weather will be pretty continuous feature in this part for a few more weeks yet. The winds were strong for the first 2 days of the week, especially over the Seven Sisters, though they had less affect on the walk than in previous weeks. I was lucky to miss the rain for the first few days of the week, but the second half of the week was pretty full on with significant rainfall, with Sunday being the worst with 9 hours of continuous rainfall.

Due to the continuous rain, a lot of the paths were extremely muddy especially around the inland harbour areas. This is to be expected at this time of year, but does slow progress, sometimes significantly, in places. In fact the ground was so waterlogged that on Sunday it was extremely difficult to find a pitch spot near Bracklesham, that was in anyway suitable.

The waves along the undercliff paths near Brighton, and the tide near Bosham, almost caused issues, but nothing that would have been to difficult to bypass.

General

Homecoming

I am originally from Brighton, and this week I was passing it on the walk. It was great to have Uncle Trevor and Graham join for the last part of that day's walk, as well as seeing my Dad at the finish point of that day. It was also nice to see other family members for dinner in the evening.

Accommodation

Unlike last week this week I had plenty of accommodation offers, in fact I can guarantee I will not have a week with less nights under canvas than this one. If it hadn't been for the illness, due to the amount of accommodation and shorter week/mileage this should/would have been an easy week.

SChedule

Due to the illness I am now one day behind schedule. For ease of any kind accommodation offers or people joining on the walk, over the next 2 weeks I am rejigging the daily routes to get back on schedule. So hopefully by Exmouth, the location of my rest day in 2 weeks time, i will be back on schedule.

Variety

For sheer variety, the amount of different terrains covered this week is quite remarkable. From the high rolling cliffs of Seven Sisters, the Rottingdean undercliff pass, the various seaside promenades, pebble beaches, dunes at Wittering, to the mudflats and reed beds of the inland harbours.
