WB 12: Power through the Gower

Progress

Progress has been good this week, and  I am still on schedule. I have travelled from Llantwit Major, Wales to Carmarthen, Wales covering 127 miles.

Hardships

Well after almost 1400 miles of walking I fell into water for the first time. The stepping stones at Ogmore Castle were flooded by several inches of water, and were incredibly slippery and uneven. The inevitable happened just 4 stones across out of about 30ish in total when I slipped of and into the water. Fortunately I maintained my balance when I landed on my feet so only got wet up to my knees, so it could of been much worse. That said my boots were drenched and there was nothing I could do so just carried on. Over night with the temperature not meant to get near freezing I tried to dry the boots out a bit. Out of nowhere I had the coldest night of the walk which completely froze my boots solid, in fact so bad I could not even get my feet in them. So I had to leave them to thaw for an hour or so, meaning I had to set of in my very flimsy plimsolls. This was not an ideal start to the week.

There were no other specific hardships.

Easter & Campsites

This week will be the first where I have the option to use campsites as they open in the lead up to Easter. This will be a very useful option to have but for monetary reasons I will still wild camp at times. Also in relation to Easter, there will obviously be an influx of tourists/families which will be a mixture of good and bad, though will mean I have to be even more discreet with any pitching spots.

Lots of Guests

As per last week, I have several guests this week which will be great, though timings and locations become a bit more important. It is fun having different people joining the walk and this week is going to be baby heavy.

Upcoming Rest Days

There are a few upcoming rest days I haven't sorted yet (still a while off), so thought would list them just on the off chance someone knows someone in or near any of the following; Aberystwyth (Wales), Aberdaron (Wales), Llanfachraeth (Anglesey), Flint (Wales).
